Primary Purpose:

Administer and operate the district’s central administrative computer networks. Develop, maintain, and monitor all district local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). Responsible for installation, testing, and oversight of all network hardware, personal computers, software, and related equipment.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in network and server administration

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Active Directory and Azure/Entra

Google Workspace

VMware or Hyper-v

Knowledge of LAN and WAN network design and installation

Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of TCP/IP and routing

Knowledge of Firewalls

 

Experience:

Five years’ experience managing active directory and Google Workspace

three years experience managing VMWare or other HyperVisor

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Server Management

Manage and update all servers

Manage Active Directory and Azure

Manage Google Workspace

Network Management

Identify and resolve network hardware and software problems.

Install and test network hardware, software, and upgrades.

Perform routine preventive maintenance on hardware.

Implement and maintain all network configurations.

Coordinate and monitor system utilization; recommend improvements as needed.

Network Security

Develop and implement a districtwide security system for all systems; ensure network security by maintaining firewall, Internet filter, network, Internet, E-mail accounts, and spam filter.

Ability to balance the restrictions on the internet filter for CIPA.

Provide staff development in network security.

Assist with development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.

Create and maintain policies and procedures to assist in preventing malicious attacks against district servers and services from inside the network.

Technical Support

Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support.

Maintain network design and configuration documentation.

Identify necessary research to stay up to date on new hardware, software, security and laws.

Provide assistance to end users to identify and correct equipment and software related problems.

Other

Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

Ability to establish rapport and work in collaboration with students, staff, and outside contracted entities.

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders

Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)

Environment: Work is performed in an office environment; frequent on-call and after-hours work; occasional districtwide travel; may be required to be on-call 24 hours a day.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; emotional control under stress
