Primary Purpose:

 

Facilitate the efficient operation of the Special Services Department and provide clerical services to professional staff.  Perform routine secretarial/receptionist duties as assigned by the Director. This position also serves as the bilingual interpreter for the Special Services Department.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Bilingual interpreter

            Proficient word processing and file maintenance skills

Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases, and do word processing

Ability to handle day-to-day disruptions and requirements as necessary, with a positive attitude.

 

Experience:

Two years of secretarial experience, preferably in a public education environment

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Maintain professional decorum and protect the confidentiality of all staff, parents, and students.
  2. Facilitate a friendly, comfortable working environment.
  3. Assist with preparing forms, and reports, for the department staff using personal computers as needed.
  4. Prepare Initial Referral and Re-Evaluation packets for the department.
  5. Complete record requests from outside agencies and assist with record requests from other school districts.
  6. Assist the Director with the management of Referral packets and maintain the Initial Referral database for tracking purposes.
  7. Process Assessment Routing Forms and track for completion of requested assessments.
  8. Serve as assistant to case managers in the processing of student audit files.
  9. Assist in completing pertinent data as needed for various state and local reports.

 

Other:

 

  1. Perform other secretarial or office duties as required or assigned by the Director.
  2. Serve as a Spanish interpreter for the department as needed.

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; prolonged use of computer; moderate lifting and carrying.
